July 12, 2023 in Destinations, Campsites, Tips for Travellers & Italy

Sardinia is quickly becoming a must-visit destination for motorhome travellers. The Italian island is easy to reach with ferries departing from Toulon, Rome and Genoa and is less busy than its neighbouring island, Sicily.

Sardinia is known to be a sophisticated island, filled with Spanish, Roman and Byzantine influences. Aside from the incredible archaeology and architecture, many visit Sardinia for the great hiking routes, beautiful sandy beaches and water sports.

We recommend exploring the whole island with our Sardinia road trip itinerary to get the full experience, but alternatively, you can simply create your own route with this list of Sardinia campsites. It’s easy to map a coastal route around Sardinia, following the turquoise sea and stopping for delicious food and drinks.

We’ve rounded up the best campsites in Sardinia, so all you have to do is start practising your Italian. Andiamo!

1. Campsite International

If you’re looking for potential Sardinia campsites for your first night after arriving, or the evening before you depart again on the ferry, then Campsite International is your best option. This campsite is a ten-minute drive from Porto Torres, where the ferry from Toulon docks.

It’s well equipped with everything you’ll need after a day of travelling, including warm showers and fresh bread that you can order for your first breakfast in Sardinia. The beach is only 200 yards away, so you’ll get to enjoy your first swim sooner than expected.

2. Società Agricola Donne Rurali di Villamassargia

This might just be our favourite out of all the great campsites in Sardinia. As soon as you enter Società Agricola Donne Rurali di Villamassargia, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to another time. It’s too beautiful to belong anywhere but a classic Italian film.

At this working farm, you’ll get to pitch your motorhome directly under olive trees. And if those olive trees have you craving something similar, don’t worry, you can buy fresh olive oil from their on-site store. Dip fresh bread into that olive oil in the shade of your motorhome pitch, and enjoy the tranquillity of this motorhome site.

Visitors mainly mention how friendly the staff is at this cosy campsite. They’ll ensure that you have everything you need, whether that’s freshly picked seasonal vegetables or tips for the local area.

Next on our list of best Sardinia motorhome campsites is Camping la Mariposa. This campsite is perfectly located for those looking to go hiking during their trip, as it’s surrounded by incredible hiking trails, such as Punta Giglio, Porto Conte and Calich Lagoon. Make sure you pack proper hiking boots, as these trails are not for the faint of heart. Fortunately, Camping la Mariposa has excellent showers to clean off the dust and dirt accumulated in a day spent adventuring.

After a long day of hillwalking, exploring the area or just dozing at the nearby beach, return to the campsite for a delicious pizza at their on-site restaurant. If you’re looking to stay active in water as well as the mountains during your stay, you can rent paddle boards, windsurf boards and kayaks.

There is a restaurant on-site serving delicious food and drinks, ideal since you won’t need to drive home afterwards. However, this site made our list of the best campsites in Sardinia due to the unbelievable view, which is the real highlight of Villaggio Camping Acapulco. Guests mention that they loved a task as simple as washing the dishes, as they got to do it while gazing out at the sea.
